The Shenfield District Guides celebrate 100 years of Guiding in 2010
Following a packed Harvest Festival Service on Sunday 2nd October, The Shenfield District Guides, Brownies and Rainbows processed from the St Mary's Church to the Butterfly Meadow to plant a celebration tree. They followed behind the Cross carried by Brenda Russell and were accompanied by the Choir, the Scouts, Reverend David Thomas (The Rector) and some of the congregation.
The party assembled around the hole that had been dug to receive the flowering Primulus tree. Guide Leader, Mary Roder, gave an introduction to the Service. The Rector then planted and dedicated the tree, which was to celebrate the Centenary of Guiding from 1910-2010. Everybody present then joined in the Prayers.
Two representatives from each of the local groups, comprising two Guides, four Brownies and two Rainbows, then added soil to the hole with a special spade and each group joined in singing their group song.
A memorial plaque was placed in front of the tree.
The Guides expressed their thanks to Doris Gower, who helped with the ceremony and with selection of the tree.
